Vintage Langley Target Model 340 Bait Casting Antique Reel

This is a Vintage Langley Target Model 340 Bait Casting Antique Reel Box Papers & Bag. This narrow spool tournament caster was introduced in 1946 and had a very short production history. The Model 340 Target has two notable mechanical differences, unique to the Langley line of casting reels. First it has no level wind, and second its a free spool reel.

The Target was advertised as being designed “for the skilled and tournament caster”. The Target has a very attractive dark green aluminite finish with a target whirl design on the housing assembly, the rim of which has six grooves cut through the finish. The free-spool mechanism is activated by pulling out on the crank, so the angler could cast”to extreme distances with great accuracy”. .
