Van Clay Retrievable Minnow
The Van Clay Retrievable Minnow Lure is a favorite among antique lure collectors. This classic bait is circa late 1920’s, a wooden glass eyed beauty and is a rather scarce lure to find. Made in Thomasville Georgia, this classic had a spring loaded head that allows the lip or its referred to in the instructions as a bib, to be turned up or don for surface or sub-surface fishing. This wooden lure measures 3 5/8″ in length and has 3 trailing trebles secured with a very distinct hardware used to secure its catch. Both Spotted and stripped paint scheme color finishes can be found.
The instructions state “Metal Bib, or turn neck piece notice carefully how this turns around. This bib is your adjustment for operating your minnow. The natural position is when both metal pieces coincide. This causes minnow when in water to run natural or on stomach; with this position of bib you get deeper fishing. Turn bib half around this places bib on top or to back of minnow. In this position your minnow will not run underwater but can be used as a plopper or cripple bait.
