ABOUT THE BOOK

The Edward K. Tryon Company was one of the most iconic gun and hardware houses in American history. Founded in 1811 by George Tryon, it was billed as the “oldest gun house in America” for much of the nineteenth century. Located in Philadelphia at “the Sign of the Golden Buffalo,” Tryon’s rich past is recounted in this documentary history of the firm. Edited by Dr. Todd E.A. Larson, this book include both complete reproductions of both anniversary histories commissioned by the firm (the 100th in 1911 and the 125th in 1936) that chronicle in text and rare photos the corporate history of the firm and its guns. This is supplemented by a biography of George Tryon, Jr., and an additional fifteen articles from various sources covering the history of the firm. Also included is a detailed history of Tryon guns by Robert A. Sadler, republished by permission of the author and the American Society of Arms Collectors. Taken as a whole, they detail the long and successful history of the esteemed House of Tryon.
