Steelhead Gladding Japan Silk Wooden Line Spool
This 1912 Steelhead Gladding Japan Silk Wooden Line Spool was made from the highest quality imported Japan silk by the B. F. Gladding Line Company (est. 1816) of South Otselic, New York. The brand honored the fish of the same name and the line was made to catch it. Steelhead and rainbow trout are the same species, but rainbow are freshwater only, and steelhead are anadromous, or go to sea. Unlike most salmon, steelhead can survive spawning, and can spawn in multiple years. Gladding made this STEELHEAD brand line for 22 years and then discontinued it following the 1934 season.

Vintage Line Spools
This spool and many others we have listed belonged to John Etchieson. John has spent decades amassing one of the largest line collections. The vast array of line spools and cards he has in his collection is historically significant as John has spent decades not only collecting, but rather researching these companies adding provenance to these pieces.
