Shakespeare Kazoo Minnow Lure
The Shakespeare Kazoo Minnow Lure was introduced around the mid 00’s. The lure appears in the 1907 Shakespeare Antique Fishing Lure catalog. The lure was given a series number 33 as it was for most of its standard 3 hook minnow lures.
The Kazoo, is one of my favorite lures and I’m really not sure why. It’s the economy line, such as the Pflueger Competitor series. The paint isnt quite the same quality as the other minnows and has small red chin blush instead of the normal painted gills. There are no fancy bells or whistles on this antique wooden lure. The lure was first offered with very tiny small glass eyes, then it would be offered with a washer style eye. The lure features wire through hook hardware with the wire tied off in a loop on each side. The lure featured Rhodes style propellers attached via the longer brass screw eye inset into each end. The lure has the three treble hooks one on each side and one at the aft of the lure.
This antique Shakespeare lure only came in two colors, the green shown in the gallery below and a red back white belly as listed in the catalog excerpt below.
