John Dineen Spinning Minnow

The John Dineen Spinning Minnow has always been a favorite antique fishing lure of mine. I must admit I’m pretty partial to metal minnows though. This scarce John Dineen 1911 Spinning Minnow Lure was born in Wisconsin later calling Chicago his home. John’s first crack at the fishing world was stringers, before he created his only single lure that he patented in 1911, #998238 and can be shown below. It is shaped by the bend, a simple one folding it back onto itself.

It has a single trailing treble to secure its catch and stay as weedless as possible.  The lure is in very nice condition for being over 100 years old. This isn’t something you run into every day and is a scarce piece. While the claims were quite grand in how it was the best out there, its resulting quick disappearance speaks more of the testament to its it fish catching prowess.

John Dineen’s 1911 Spinning Minnow

The only minnow made which is perfectly weedless for top and deep water fishing. No possibility of it becoming tangled in your line when casting or lifting from the water. It does away with the frog, pork and old fashioned spoon.  A natural bait, having all the characteristics of a live minnow. Especially designed for bass, pickerel, muskellunge, pike and all game fish.

The minnow is made out of extra quality brass, heavily nickle plated and ornamented, just what was needed to make casting a pleasure.

The brace is the only attachment to rod which does away with the annoyance of your reel continually slipping, and makes casting as pleasure. In fact, the greatest safety device on the market, and no rod is complete without it.

My patent minnows are the best artificial bait in existence. They catch fish. That’s the test. They are so natural and attractive that they cannot be resisted. If you want results, try them. They hook the fish and hold them when hooked.
