Goo Goo Eyes Lure
The Goo Goo Eyes Lure is another one of those lures from the golden age of Striper fishing in New England. Leo Cooper of Stamford Connecticut who’s creation born from his passion of fishing for striper, turned his personal creations into a business sometime between 1956 and 1958. These surf casting lures came in a few shapes and size albeit all with the tell tale large bulbous eyes.

These eyes were actually said to have been found by Cooper’s friend who was a pilot, Art Glowka, on a trip to Hong Kong. This tool and die maker turned inventor would also Call these Jac-Pot lures. In 1967 the state record for striped Bass at 73 pounds would be caught by Charles Cinto, thus propelling Coopers sales alongside the ensuing media and word of mouth tsunami shared among fisherman and boat captains alike. The Blue Bodied Goo Goo Eyes Lure shown in it’s correct box marked for a Blue Eel, #50JT and I believe is either the first or the second style of the 4 different eye variations used on this antique fishing lure.
