The Creek Chub Toad Van Houton Wiggler Lure is really a series 200 Baby Wiggler. This model number antique lure made by the Creek Chub Bait Company of Garrett Indiana had been in existence since 1917 and lasted almost a half a century. For close to 50 years the Creek Chub Baby wiggler lure was made, so it should come to no surprise to anyone that collects, researches and hunts up old fishing tackle, that there would be variations. We not referring though in this case to the eyes or the hook hardware or normal evolution based on improvements to the lure itself. What we are referring to is the painted lip and noticeable difference in the paint scheme that separates this 200 from its seemingly identical brothers.
‘One cant help but notice the triangle shaped and hand painted lip on this antique fishing lure. It’s namesake a young hard working employee named Austin “Toad” Van Houten. It’s been written that this young gentleman with great work ethics made his way up through the ranks at he creek chub Bait Company to that of supervisor. It’s also said that when times were slow Toad would work on his special line that he gave his personal touch on. The Baby Wiggler inst the only lure out there with the avant garde painted lip so keep your eyes out. You’ll also notice that the 03 Silver Shiner color is also a slight bit different, missing the green stripe on the back on these Baby Wiggler fishing lures.
