Tropical Bait Stormy Petrel Lure
The Tropical Bait Stormy Petrel Lure has always been a favorite with collectors. Ned Danforth of Indianapolis, Indiana was the Owner and inventor of the Stormy Petrel. Ned began making his now famous fishing lures as early as 1935. The Stormy Petrel as it is referred to some as the Pac Man antique fishing lure would come years later. The lure touted on it’s box, it was made to “Fly Fish with a Casting Rod.” The Stormy Petrel shown is 1 3/8″ in diameter with two tufts of hair exiting the back of the head. The Stormy Petrel had two forward facing bulbous eyes on the top of the head. The single line tie was attached to the bottom of the open mouth. The lure has a single hook that has a weedless tine attached. The lure was made in various different colors and sizes including an even smaller Petrel, which I will do a later post on. The lure is shown here in its correct corresponding lure box.
