BOOK OVERVIEW
In this, the first volume in the History of Illinois Fishing Tackle series by historian Stephen L. Lumpkin, one of the most enduring fishing lures ever made is detailed for the first time ever in print: the Illinois Jointed River Minnow. The first widely popular narrow body jointed fishing lure in American fishing history, it has its origins with the lure style’s inventor William J. Kauth in 1924, but soon spawned a number of important imitators and improved copies. All of the major makers of Jointed River Minnows lived within a couple hours of each other near the Kankakee River.
Manufacturers covered include William J. Kauth, Gen-Shaw Bait Co., Rex Line Bait Co., Stream Line Products, Inc., and a number of small makers as well as later imitators. Illustrated with dozens of crisp color lure photos and numerous vintage photos, ads, and information, this book will be the definitive work on one of the most important lure types in American fishing history.
Note that Volume II in this series will cover the largest of the Jointed River Minnow manufacturers–the L & S Bait Co. of Bradley, Illinois.
