The 1928 South Bend Bait Catalog States: “The South Bend Fly Rod Surf Oreno is a light surface lure. In action it looks more like a bug than a bug itself. Can be used with a trout weight fly rod, as it rides the surface and has and easy pick up. Most fisherman will prefer to use it with a Bass weight fly rod such as a South Bend No. 20. Substantial in construction yet light, lure rides high in water. Spinners are loose, giving wounded minnow effect. Practically weedless.”
