Shakespeare Perfect Line Spool
The history behind the Shakespeare Perfect Line Spool. Shakespeare’s PERFECT brand – In 1909 the William Shakespeare Jr. Company (est. 1897) of Kalamazoo, Michigan introduced a new trade mark for its “Indian Silk” fishing lines with the likeness of the famous Chief Red Cloud (1822 – 1909) of the Oglala Lakota (one of the 7 tribes of the Sioux nation) shown in profile wearing a full feathered headdress. The 1909 – 1916 era PERFECT brand featured this new trade mark on one side label and a colorful graphic image of a Native American Indian paddling his canoe on the other side label. The line on this spool of the PERFECT brand was braided of white silk threads with a single black silk thread included to give it a distinctive pattern design of black specks spaced a quarter inch apart.
