Shakespeare 1740 HE Tournament Casting Antique Reel

Shakespeare 1740 HE Tournament Casting Reel

This is a Shakespeare Model 1740 HE Tournament Casting Reel. This reel is probably one of the nicest smooth spinning reels I’ve had the pleasure of holding and selling. The reel dates to the mid 1920’s, has whats referred to as a narrow free spinning . The end caps are both smooth in appearance, and are adorn with jeweled center rigged knobs. All 7 of the screws on the right face plate of the reel, the side with the handle, appear to be in fine shape without any evidence of slotting. The left face plate of the reel is where Shakespeare has stamped the make and model of the reel, as well as it’s logo under the Jeweled Centered knob. All 7 of the rivet heads including the Jeweled raised rigged knob perfect in appearance.

This really is a beauty of a reel. The antique reel sports its original tiny handle, affixed with two gray and black marbled bake-lite handle knobs.

The foot of the reel is consistent with the rest of the reels beauty, and is smooth and void of any defects and is Stamped Made in the USA, Patented. There is no mention of yardage, but this model is a 60 yard capacity reel. Wound upon its narrow free spinning spool is what appears to be early tournament casting line. Completing the package is the original green draw string, felt sock. Needless to say this would make a fine addition to even the most advanced reel collection one that would never need to be upgraded. The high grade quality and appearance lend this to be labeled a top shelf reel in my book.
