Scarlet Chief Gladding Wooden Fishing Line Spool
This Scarlet Chief Gladding Wooden Fishing Line Spool brand mirror finish fishing line was constructed of a high quality braided Egyptian cotton in dark green color combined with specks of scarlet colored threads. It was introduced in 1912 by the B. F. Gladding Company (est. 1816) of South Otselic, New York who manufactured it until 1930. The label featured the new 1912 modified logo that added the letter “G” over the two previously trade marked fish facing each other with the slogan “LINE UP WITH GLADDING” printed inside the latter “G”.

Vintage Line Spool
This spool and many others we have listed belonged to John Etchieson. John has spent decades amassing one of the largest line collections. The vast array of line spools and cards he has in his collection is historically significant as John has spent decades not only collecting, but rather researching these companies adding provenance to these pieces.
