Pike Oreno Lure
The Pike Oreno Lure was first introduced as a model 975. This South Bend Bait Company lure was first introduced in 1922 and lasted 7 years in its first appearance until 1929. I would later be reintroduced in take on a different shape and size. This antique fishing lure measured 4 1/4″ in length and has a district forward, front head plate. I say distinct because it has the name of the lure inscribed in it as well. The first version of the class fishing lure was made with no eyes, as with other popular South Bend lures such as the infamous Bass Oreno.

The first version of this minnow with no eyes lasted from about 1922 through 1926 and the last 3 years this was available 26-29 it was produced with glass eyes. The lure is a larger gamefish minnow and featured 3 trebles to secure its prey, the first 2 affixed via the South Bend traditional cup rig hardware.
The 1926 South Bend Catalog stated. “The Pike Oreno is a special lure for walleyed pike, great northern pike and pickerel. It is also mighty effective for bass and muskie. Pike Oreno goes down after am. Travels about four to eight feet deep, depending on speed it is reeled. Has a crippled fish action darting, diving and wobbling in a manner which makes the big ones want it.
