Pepper Roman Spider Antique Fishing Lure
The Pepper Roman Spider Antique Fishing Lure is a truly timeless lure. This great classic antique fishing lure dates back over 100 years and comes to us from a small central New York Town, Rome, NY. Pepper was an innovator, and inventor and a key cog in the wheel for many outdoor sporting activities. From Hunting to Fishing if your a collector in your research you will no doubt come across them and their wares on many occasions. For not only did they work for the Family but you will even see a period of time when Pepper , Hook, and McHarg would collaborate under the same employment team.
The Roman spider is one of Peppers more classic wooden lures. This version is considered a “notched head” version, with yellow with black iris painted eyes with a single forward line tie placed between. This lure has the very identifiable string side legs to imitate the appearance of lifelike bug legs during the antique lures retrieval. There is another version sans the split between the eyes. The version shown below is one of the larger sizes measuring 3 1/4″ in length and has just two trebles hooks secured with a simple eye screw to secure its catch. The lure can be found in a myriad of sizes and paint finish colors available.
