Paw Paw Old Wounded Minnow Lure

The Paw Paw Old Wounded Minnow Lure was the Paw Paw Bait Company’s answer to the industry craving for injured minnows. Imitation being the nearest and dearest sense of flattery, or just pure marketing trying to get a piece of what was a booming business for both Heddon and Creek Chub. Paw Paw entered the market earlier under a different name that’s written to have cause some issues with Creek Chub and its patent. This version of the Injured Minnow was the traditional Paw Paw Tack eyes and measures 3 1/2″ in length. The lure weighed in at a whopping 3/4 oz.

The Old Wounded Minnow antique fishing lure was given a model series 2500 in this form and dates to the late 30’s early 1940’s. The lure a standard 3 trebles, but they’ve offered a 2 Hook in this larger body size as well. The traditional painted cup rigging for the side hooks and the single screw eye for the rear. The wounded minnow like most of the injured industry wide series, and swam on its side to replicate an injured fish. The lure can also be found with Moonlight props but more often than not you will find them with the cheaper, more thin Paw Paw floppy props.

The lure can be found in a host of colors, making it fun to collect and sometimes easy on the wallet, depending on color, condition and if it has the original box. The example shown below comes in a Blue Version of the “I go For Lucky Lures” box and is correctly marked on its side. This color is a beautiful Silver Scale, Red Head with Stripes a Code 21.
