Outing Du Getum Lure
The Outing Du Getum Lure was first introduced in the late teens. The Outing Manufacturing Company of Elk Hart Indiana among its release of a series of hollow metal antique fishing lures. The Du Getum resembled a bug or a beetle even a floating frog. The lure came in two different models, a model 700 & model 750 differentiated by the weight. The 700 had a weight of 3/4 and the 750 1/2 ounce. The hollow metal lure measured 3″ in length and had 2 dual hooked lures attached to the bait via pre inserted eyelets.
We have a Du Getum in on Consignment this week, click below to view.
The outing catalog states: Our DU·GE’TUM was born or necessity and is the result of years of more or less patient experimenting to make a lure that is al· most wholly weed-less. a good hooker, and with an action on the sur-face. The biggest fish are almost always in the weeds where other lures won’t book fish. They get strikes all right, we don’t claim a monopoly oo strikes, but to successfully book fish in weeds. the lure must be constructed so that the body will ward of! weens and yet with the hooks placed just right to hook fish, whether a nippin’ short striker, or the big boy that wants to swallow the lure.
Both the three quarter and one half ounce Du Getum wobble on the surface when reeled In by a slow steady grind. But for the best results don’t hurry ’em. Just cast out where you think that old big boy Is that has fooled you all last year, and let the halt lay still a few seconds, even light your pipe, If so mindful, and then give the a quick little jerk not over two or three Inches. Let It come to a full stop, then jerk it again. Continuing these tactics until the lure is out or promising territory. Try it, it’s easy, and it sure does help ketch fish.
The DuGetum sure does act scandalous, switching its rear anatomy round in a very tantalizing manner and if your bass, pike or muskle is within seein’ or hearin’ distance, his fate is sealed. Remember, don’t burry’im, it’s the slow worm that gets the fish here.
The three-quarter ounce Du Getum rides higher on the surface than the one half ounce. and is slightly more weed-less, due to the size of the body.
Use the grass frog color or early morning and evening and dull days, bull frog for bright days, the field mouse for almost any time, the aluminum and red, also white and red for those who are sold on these colors. And tor moonlight casting, the black baby with the pickney eyes. It seems reasonable don’t it that a black bait at the V-shaped ripple on the surface can be seen more easily by the fish underneath against a white clear sky than a white or luminous bait? Just try it and come in out or the fog.
