Moonlight Muskie Pikaroon Antique Lure
This Moonlight Muskie Pikaroon Antique Lure is one of those lures that takes your breath away. Every now and then I get an antique lure in on consignment that that fits that bill. The Moonlight Bait Company bought or acquired the Silver Creek Novelty Works bait company somewhere in the early 1920’s. With it they gained access to the production of the Poly-Wog whose body shape and size would lend one to the assumption that there is a relationship. The Pikaroon was a accepted as a better seller for Moonlight and would last into the early 1930’s during the transition from Moonlight to the Paw Paw Bait company.
We have a wonderful Muskie Size Pikaroon in on Consignment, Click below to view.
The Muskie size Pikaroon was a natural transition from the initial Normal Size and jointed Pikaroon antique lure offerings of the early to mid 1920’s. This wooden glass eyed lure was given a model series #900 by the Moonlight Bait Company. This wonderful looking lure has the atypical body shape with the pointed nose, single forward line tie and tapering mid section to tail. The Muskie Minnow gained an extra treble yet didn’t beef up or increase how they were attached to the main body still using the simple screw eye. The assortment of colors runs parallel to most of the Moonlight baits created during that time frame.
Below you can see a catalog cut from around 1925 exclaiming the “New Pikaroon”
