This Mascot US Line Waterproof Japan Silk Casting Line Spool is a classic piece of vintage fishing tackle. The United States Line Company of Westfield, Massachusetts was established in 1926 and adopted this backside label image of a flying eagle with a fish in its talons above the letters “U S L” as its corporate logo after it ceased being the United States Whip Company. After the automobile made the buggy whip obsolete the company changed with the times and began braiding silk fishing lines instead of braiding leather to make whips.
