The History of the Maniac Brand Gladding Line Spool. The MANIAC brand extra hard braided Japan silk minnow casting line was introduced in 1910 with the early two fish trade mark by the manufacturer B. F. Gladding Line Company (est. 1816) of South Otselic, New York and produced from 1912 through 1933 with the Gladding “G” trade mark. The brand name MANIAC may also be defined as a person who has an excessive enthusiasm or desire for something such as a a sports maniac or in this case an excessive enthusiasm for fishing.
