Dating to the 1930’s era KILRUSH brand waterproof Cuttyhunk linen line coiled on a card was made by the Cortland Line Company. Established in 1915 of Cortland, New York to honor Kilrush (Irish: Cill Rois, meaning “Church of the Woods”) which is a coastal town in County Clare, Ireland. The graphic image of a beautiful leaping Tarpon was used on the line card to convey the message that this KILRUSH brand line was intended for saltwater fishing and was strong enough to land the big game fish.
