Jim Slack Long Billed Dowitcher
This a wonderful Jim Slack Long Billed Dowitcher, an iconic American Shorebird. The long-billed dowitcher is a medium-sized shorebird. The genus name Limnodromus is Ancient Greek from limne, “marsh” and dromos, “racer”. The specific scolopaceus is New Latin for “snipe-like”, from Latin scolopax, scolopacis, a snipe or woodcock. The English name is from Iroquois and was first recorded in 1841. Just from looking at this bird by this carver you see his attention to detail and precision while combining this his own artistic impressions.
