Heddon Big Tiger Lure Baby Bass

The Heddon Big Tiger Lure is a model 1040 and was first introduced in 1968. The lure would only make a short run for 3 years until it was discontinued in 1971. Although it would make a brief appearance again in 1980 it would again be phased out in three years in 1983. This plastic lure is the largest in the Tiger series. Instead of the traditional names used to describe the largest in a Heddon Series Such as Muskie or Husky or Magnum, someone settled for simplicity using the word “Big”. This lure being plastic in construction, is often referred to as a spook, measures 5 1/4″ in length. The lure like its little brothers uses two trebles to secure its prey. These hooks are held to the body by a through body construction where the heavy duty rings are inset into the mold during construction.

Heddon Big Tiger

Consistent in the family of tigers, the “Big” Tiger has a single forward like tie at the point of its nose. Its square staggered heavy duty diving lip molded within the construction of its body sets back about a inch onto the underside. The Big Tiger with its limited production is hard to find, its colors remain consistent throughout the line up made up of generally of Solid color backs with clear sides showing off a metallic insert. Once and a while it can be found in collector favorite colors such as the example shown here in “Baby Bass”. Identification is made easy with this Heddon Model besides its obvious length, the lure is Stenciled ” Heddon Big Tiger” on its belly.
