Ed Wood Sunspot Spoon Lure
The Ed Wood Sunspot Spoon Lure is a rather tough one to come by. Sometimes value and scarcity don’t line up equally on the same line and this Sun Spot Spoon is a great example. This is the predecessor to the later version, the South Bend Sun Spot Spoon. This lure and box combo dates to around 1939. Doing some research I wasnt able to unearth much on this maker who combined his first and last name into the name of the company. The Elkhart, Indiana fishing lure maker Ed Wood would just truncate it into Edwood. Appearing in looks almost identical to the South Bend version.
Building upon one of the most primitive and successful fishing lures, the flasher spoon. The lure as its being retrieved would allow the sunlight to permeate the spoon through the different colored plastic covered holes. Thus earning its namesake through its practicality, Sun Spot Spoon. The lure had only a single fixed hook, which was made weedless by the use of the two thin metal tines mounted on the underside. The Sun Spot lure was only available in 4 finishes through the Edwood Company.
