CORPORATE HISTORY FRED ARBOGAST COMPANY 1925-47
The CORPORATE HISTORY FRED ARBOGAST COMPANY 1925-47; Part I is so eloquently written by author Kevin Virden who knowledge and expertise on the subject matter is quite evident in his first piece about the industry and collector favorite company, The Fred Arbogast Company. Below is a small excerpt from this highly informative and enjoyable first part to what will be a enlightening walk down the street in Akron, Ohio.
As records of the Fred Arbogast Company, Incorporated indicate, Fred Arbogast’s business was incorporated in 1946, just one year short of his passing in October 1947. The business was well-known at this time and although not as large as their crosstown rival Enterprise Manufacturing Company, known as Pflueger, it kept significant
presence not only in Akron, Ohio, but the fishing community in general.
In this series, we will chronicle the corporate history of the Fred Arbogast Company from its founding until the untimely passing of the founder in 1947. Along the way, we will discover many unknown facts about the firm, many of which will cause jaws to drop and eyes to open wide. The information which forms the base of this series of articles comes from a variety of Arbogast family sources and company records. When done, it will cause many of us to reevaluate what we know about the Fred Arbogast Company.
In this first section, what many people do not know about Fred’s company, is that business leadership grew many years prior than when it started in 1925. So we must start this section before Fred ever sold a single fishing lure.
Fred Arbogast’s business had indeed started as a youth, but was a result from his background with a sound upbringing and family leadership. As examined in my book Fred Arbogast: A Biography of Akron’s Greatest Angler,
one person came to Akron that made not only a tremendous difference in his future family, but in the lives of others and his own children. He was also one of the most important figures in the Fred Arbogast Company.
