Boatmans Ashaway Cuttyhunk Twisted Linen Fishing Line Spool
The History of Boatmans Ashaway Cuttyhunk Twisted Linen Fishing Line Spool; Ernest Hemingway owned a 38-foot fishing boat named Pilar. It was acquired in April 1934 from Wheeler Shipbuilding in Brooklyn, New York. It looked very much like the boat on this 1933 Boatmen’s Special Cuttyhunk by Ashaway Line & Twine Company, and since it is well recorded that Hemingway always used the Ashaway brand for his fishing, I have often wondered if this fishing line label might have influenced his purchase of the Pilar.

VIntage Fishing Line Spool
This spool and many others we have listed belonged to John Etchieson. John has spent decades amassing one of the largest line collections. The vast array of line spools and cards he has in his collection is historically significant as John has spent decades not only collecting, but rather researching these companies adding provenance to these pieces.
