Blue Ribbon Gladding Line Spool
The history of the Blue Ribbon Gladding Line Spool. In their 1912 catalog the B. F. Gladding Line Company (est. 1816) of South Otselic New York featured this BLUE RIBBON brand braided silk casting line for the discerning and knowledgeable fisherman as their slogan noted, “For The Man Who Knows”. Gladding used a graphic image of a wavy blue ribbon which signified the “highest quality” line they produced. The BLUE RIBBON remained a popular brand with those who required the best for the next 28 years with some significant design variations of this introductory year label after 1924.
