Bite Em Wiggler Minnow Lure
The Bite Em Wiggler Minnow Lure a model series 101, was another offering made by the Bite Em Bait Company of Warsaw Indiana later moving to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Having produced antique lures from the late teens, 1917 time frame they produced around 8-10 offerings. Simplicity seemed to be at the center of their creations, no flash or flare. All except the Lipped Wiggler had no eyes including the Bite-Em Wiggler Shown below. The Bite Em Wiggler made of wood measured 3 5/8″ in length and came in only a small combination of the traditional Bit Em color finishes, Red & White, Gold, Yellow, White. Unfortunately their paint did not hold up well to father time, so finding un-chipped examples can be challenging.
The Bite Em Wiggler itself was introduced around 1920. The lure was a simple and tapered at both ends, the front was a flat face which held the single forward line tie and a small reinforcement plate. The lure featured two treble hooks both used a simple modified screw eye to secure it. For reinforcement each had a metal plate, the rear of which was a dual purpose for strength and motion.
This great example is shown its very rare and hard to find Bite-Em Wiggler Picture Box. The box exclaims; “The Nickle plated spoon on Tail makes the bait very active and attractive. It is easy on the Rod, Reel, and line. Skitters, Dips, Darts, and Dives at will of Caster Floats When Not in Motion.” The example is marked on the left end flap with the corresponding model, a series 101, and its color, Red & White. To add to this already awesome package the box has the original price tag on the bottom, a whopping .$25 cents, yes please Ill have a dozen.
