The 1935 Creek Chub Catalog has a great excerpt on its Fly Rod Lure offerings.

FLY ROD LURES

Within the last few years a brand new sport has been developed : Fishing for pan fish with small plug lures. Wonderful sport can be had with these little lures on blue gills, crappies, rock bass and so on. Either a long cane pole, a fty rod or a regular bait rod, used as a trolling rig can be used. Take the Creek Bug Wiggler, No. 1000, or No. 1100 series or the Fly Rod Pikies, No. 1200 or 1300. Place a sinker in the line a foot or so above the lure and troll slowly over and around sunken bars and learn the thrill of taking the big blue gills and crappies. On a stony or gravel bottom, where the big rock bass lie, you can have the time of your life with one of these little lures on a fly rod, and this style of fishing will open your eyes to the possibilities of bass, and good ones, on our fl.yrod Pop-It, Injured Minnow, Froggie, Crawdad and Humbird. These lures have been especially designed to fill the need for something in a natural and life-like lure for flyrod use in bass fishing and several seasons use have demonstrated them to be far superior to the old fashioned fly, spinner or feather minnow.

Many users report excellent results from the use of these lures on large trout. If you have never experienced the thrill of using a fly rod on these game fish you have a wonderful thrill coming. Try it.

For lures of this type we recommend a bass action rod of about 9 feet and from 5 l/4 to 6 oz, in weight. The best time of day is early morning or jusl at sundown, as the fish naturally work into the shallower waters to feed. For stream fishing our No. F-50 Flyrod Crawdad will be found ideal. A split shot in the leader, a few inches ahead of the lure will sink it enough to make it a natural bait and few small mouth bass can pass up the juicy morsel of a baby crawfish. For weedy spots. the Froggle is very good as it is perfectly weedless and can be cast into the reeds and moss without danger of fouling.

Our fl.yrod Crippled Minnow and flyrod Pop-It are sure killers of bass in open water, as is also the new Flyrod Mouse.

The popularity of the hair bodied lures for bass and pan fish has increased greatly within the last year or two. You will find the very latest developments in these lures on the next page. All are tied on the very best hand-forged, hollow point, turned down eye, hooks. The bodies are made of a stiff resilient hair. the wings and tails of deer hair. the hackles combined deer hair and feathers.

Creek Chub is the first to produce a bug which will, as one enthusiast puts it, “float forever.” The hair used in all of these lures is chemically treated to prevent the absorption of water. You will find it practically impossible to sink these bugs. Day after day use of them in the hardest kind of fishing and they will still float perfectly. They are so balanced as to light right side up almost every time and will always right themselves and float with the barb in the proper position to hook the fish. In using them they should be cast and allowed to lie quietly on the surface for several seconds, then a very slight movement and again allow them to rest. It Is an actual fact that the less motion imparted to the bug the better results you will have. It is necessary for their use that line and leader float perfectly, hence your line must be dressed often enough to keep it always on the surface.

For late afternoon and evening fishing, which will be found the most successful, we recommend as a rule the grays, browns and blacks. However there are times when the brighter colored lures give excellent results. In murky water and on rather fast moving streams the white lure Is exceptlonally good.

Some anglers prefer to use these under certain conditions with a small spinner. Usually a light weight spinner will be sufficient to sink the lure just under the surface and produce the desired results. If necessary a very light weight may be used in connection with the spinner to secure the desired depth.
