The Creek Chub Lure Catalog section brings us a great place to research and identify and learn about your antique fishing lure. This page will allow you to research models, model numbers, dates produced colors produced and why they made it and to fill what need of fisherman. Remembering always the most import lesson, these companies were in business to produce lures, not to make it always easy for us lure collectors to understand all the why’s and what’s. We learn not only about the lure themselves, but the company, its mantra, its employees. A way of life it wanted to bring forth to fisherman both far and wide. and what better way that to hear from the president themselves.
Dear Brother Fisherman: If you could sit down and talk fish and baits with me for an hour or so, I think we could both learn a lot. It very seldom happens that I talk with a fisherman and do not learn a few new wrinkles in the fishing game and usually I can reciprocate by giving them a few hints on how to use artificial baits; for more than 20 years I have been making and using artificial baits and the cream of this experience is embodied in Creek Chub Lures. Here
at Garrett we take a great deal of pride in making the finest and most successful lures ever produced and the steadily increasing demand for them indicates that the fishermen over the country appreciate the10. Every new lure that we produce Is the result of months and sometimes years . of patient experiment to produce a bait for some particular purpose and not merely the hurried attempt to produce something for the public to buy.
We were the originators of the natural .scale finish on baits and the pioneers in giving to a wooden bait life-like motion and we still lead while others attempt to imitate.
NOTE THE FEATURES OF OUR LURES NOT FOUND IN OTHER MAKES
(1) Genuine Cedar Bodies in all floating lures-no pine or basswood these woods are not suitable ror bait bodies.
( 2) Our exclusive process of treating the wood to prevent cracking or scaling of the finish-our lures look better and last longer.
( 3) From seven to fourteen coats of paint and color on every bait.
( 4) Hook holes and other openings treated after painting to seal the wood and prevent waterlogging.
( 6) Extra high finish on all nickeled parts. We do our own plating and polishing and do it right. (Most metal parts are now made of stainless, rustless alloys better and stronger than heretofore used).
(6) Extra weight hooks or the best imported makes and extra heavily plated or bronzed to prevent corrosion.
( 7) Eyes that have a natural color not found In many baits.
( 8) Shape closely approaching the live bait.
(9) Coloration the nearest to life ever produced.
( 10) Careful workmanship, assembling, and Inspection; every bait perfect, no seconds.
(11) Fair, square, honest dealing with everyone from the people employed In our factory on through the Wholesaler, the Retailer, and to You, the ultimate user. Read the simple Instructions issued with each bait. Use a little judgment in suiting your bait to the season and the water you are fishing and Creek Chub Baits will Catch More Fish.

I find this 1948 catalog rather hard to follow. There seems to be as many lures shown in the catalog that they mark “not available” as regular lures. I’m not sure why they would spend the time and money to print all these, and they weren’t available, why not just omit them all together.

The 1953 Catalog has a great story of fishing history as it relates to Indian American life.
