Paw Paw Indian Sign Fly Lure Box

Paw Paw Indian Sign Fly Lure Box

This Paw Paw Indian Sign Fly Lure Box is a great example of a antique fly lure box. Collecting the lures themselves is just one piece of the Antique lure puzzle, or paradigm the boxes which house them and the paperwork inserts is another. Here is a classic example of a beautiful antique fly fishing lure box, dating back to the early 1930’s. For a short time in the 1930’s, less than a decade, Paw Paw fly rod lures were sold under a separate company than the regular lures. You will notice on the bottom of the box it states The Paw Paw Fly Company, from Paw Paw Michigan. Its said that this venture wasn’t of sound business sense or profitable so the fly fishing division or entity went back into the fold so to speak.

Jacobs Polly Frog Lure

Jacobs Polly Frog Lure

The Jacobs Polly Frog Lure was patented in 1942, and as stated on its box “Being a lure for all game fish”. From the already famous maker of the Jacobs Hoss or Horse Fly lure, we see a new offering. The Polly Frog antique fly lure was available in 4 Size: 1 1/4″, 2″, 2 1/2″ and 3″ in length. This wooden painted eye, almost always yellow with black iris is a great little catch. The lure is multi-segmented, the front sphere shaped spots the forward line tie and a single double hook underneath the antique lure. The aft section of the lure being the legs, has two single hooks partially covered by colorful tufts of hair. The lure was made in a variety or an array of colors ranging from the traditional frog color to black and white, blue and yellow, red and white, black and yellow, solid gold and many others. Needles to say Edward Lee Jacobs or E.L. Jacobs to whom most refer had another great lure to add to his already Vicksburg Michigan fly and fishing lure offerings.
