2018 Great Milwaukee Classic

2018 Great Milwaukee Classic

Please find a 2018 Great Milwaukee Classic Show update……..I’ve posted elsewhere, but appreciate spreading the word!

The 2018 Great Milwaukee Classic – Show Update

Well, the fun begins next week….and, we’re all looking forward to it!

2018 Show Update…..
For those attending this year….Please note that the main room block has moved from the Wisconsin Wing to the Brookfield Wing. The Brookfield is closer to the exhibit areas and offers more rooms on the first floor. We will be on just four floors, rather than six, which should make for less stair climbing or fewer elevator rides. Pre-Registration will still happen on the first floor of the Wisconsin Wing and will be available on Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll have signage up with open times on Wednesday morning. Stop by for a visit, beverage and a bite to eat. The pre-registration room will also host the live auction preview- set for Thursday evening (the live auction is open to NFLCC members and will take place Friday, beginning at 7pm).

2019 Show Dates……
We’ve already contracted for the 2019 event, which will be held on Friday, January 18th and Saturday, January 19th, 2019. I expect that the hotel will be able to accept reservations next week. As usual, we will be taking table reservations for the 2019 show next week and encourage table holders to reserve early.

By any measure, we expect this will be the largest show we’ve hosted at this venue! We’re looking forward to lots of new faces this year.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to seeing many of you next week.

Safe Travels-
Chris

NFLCC 2018 Club Magazine Winter Issue

NFLCC 2018 Club Magazine Winter Issue

With the forthcoming NFLCC 2018 Club Magazine Winter Issue and holiday I thought it appropriate;

Twas the Night Before the Winter Issue

Twas the Night Before the Winter Issue,
And All through the House,
In This the winter issue Dorr, Martin & Hecht Show us some splendid Creek Chub Fly Rod Lures, including a Mouse,
The Stockings were Hung by the Chimney with Care,
With Hopes that more of Dudley’s wonderful cover art, soon would be there.

The members were a nestled, all snug in their beds,
Knowing visions of Chance’s folk art lures, would soon fill their heads.
Momma in her kerchief and I in my Cap, Had just opened a bottle of Single Malt to enjoy with John Etchison’s line art, night cap.

When out on the lawn their rose such a clatter,
While the thought of Gary Smith’s article on Herter’s, all that did matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, Blinded by the Light of Thomas’s Lemax and their Flash!

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Until reading Bucha’s & Tustison article on Creek Chub Wigglers, little I did know.
When what to my wandering eyes should appear, in the center of the Mag a North Channel in the Box, Appear!

With a little old driver so lively and quick,
Did Dudley’s letter from the editor, read really quick!
More rapid than eagles his courses they came,
My excited anticipation for Pigeon Forge and Milwaukee
did came.

On Ward on Saalfrank, on Ireton & Martin, on Ocharzak, Ozimkowski, Jones & Collen, Gibson & Chisman,
To the top of the porch to the Top of the wall,
Stu Strange proclaimed, Thank you to our Membership, & Merry Christmas to All!!

Whitefish Price Guide to Vintage Fishing Lures

The 2018 Whitefish Price Guide to Vintage Fishing Lures

In the Whitefish Price Guide to Vintage Fishing Lures; Everyone has an opinion on what a vintage fishing lure is worth, but there is only one way to know for sure: find out what similar or identical lures have sold for in the recent past. But this is not as easy as it sounds. On-line auction sites delete all records of sales older than three months, and many of the rarer lures only come up for sale every year or two. So how can you reliably tell what any given fishing lure is worth?

The Book is now available for pre-order by clicking below

The 2018 Whitefish Price Guide to Vintage Fishing Lures

In The 2018 Whitefish Price Guide to Vintage Fishing Lures, noted collector and author Matt Lollman has collected 10,000+ actual sale prices of thousands of different fishing lures from hundreds of different companies. From on-line auction and forum sales to speciality auction houses to in person show sales, Lollman has given the following details for each entry: Company (including company city and state), Lure and Model Number, Color, Era, Detailed Description, Material, Condition, Month of Sale, and actual sale in dollars. Now you can quickly and conveniently find out the value of thousands of different lures! Includes 24 pages of color photos of lures and rare lure color charts. As opposed to value guides, which estimate the sale price of a fishing lure based on the author’s experience, The 2018 Whitefish Guide eliminates the guess work and gives only actual verified data. Rather than rely on someone’s estimates, you can now better establish the value of a lure based on actual sales data from the past two years (the vast majority being from the past twelve months). This makes this book a must for any collector, historian, or dealer of old fishing lures.

Tao & The Art of Backyard Living Pt1

I get asked a lot, ” What does the Flame stand for, in Fin and Flame?”. There is only one Hobby outside of family, that encompasses my time as much as Fishing Lures and its History, and that is cooking, grilling & smoking call it what you may. While the aforementioned titles or type sets illicit preconceived notions of how each should be done or accomplished, one thing you have to have before you do any,  “Flame”.

Tao and The Art of Back Yard Living Part I

How I Met the Her, The Big Green Egg That is………

I was a young green horn selling and designing computer networks back in the hay day before the internet pop mid 90s….Was sitting in my back office cube, lights dim (as I always undid one of the two elongated fluorescent  bulbs), …1970s Sears Brown Faux wood grained radio with a loudness knob instead of volume that I had found in the warehouse. I was playing a little John Coletrain, and Thelonious Monk from the local college FM broadcast around 7 am. Gathering my thoughts & getting my head straight, having a large black cup of coffee….

It was two decades ago (I feel old saying that), I Had been married only 8 months, just bought my first house, was still semi naive although I had been through college and military.  Just like anyone in their mid 20’s, I Thought I knew what was good in life and certainly thought I knew how and what what tasted good…

I heard the boss talking to someone, as they walked up the hall towards my cube, it was a new sales guy. My Boss Introduced me to him, and he showed him to his new cube across from mine. After the boss departed to let him get set, he hollered across the cube,  “Man its pretty early for the monk… but I like it…” Alas, he forgot about straightening his new desk he grabbed his coffee, and came over to the corner office with this Giant Faded 7-11 cup, that would come to define him and the “position” to which I will refer later. He Introduced himself again, and looked around my office. It was covered in Jerry Garcia Ties, many of which were hanging off the bill of a 8″ mounted sword fish which coincidentally I had also found in the warehouse and re-purposed as well. 4 Large Saltwater Game rods and reels for decoration leaning against an overflowing bookcase filled with computer product related material.  He looked at me and said,  “I normally I wouldn’t say this but I got a feeling you and I will become very good friends.

Within minutes our conversation moved across myriad topics, music, family, towards the inevitable….Food…He said do you like to cook out? I replied,  “Sure,  I just in fact had bought a new gas grill this last weekend, and spent 8 hours putting it together”….In truth it took so long to put it […]

Sunday Sounds April Edition

Sunday Sounds April Edition

On a rainy Sunday morning strolling through FB and Ebay with a cup of coffee in hand I came across a post of a Frog Spot Jamison Coaxer lure for sale, and if there is one thing that goes with Jamison in my head, its my buddy Joe.

Jamison Coaxer Colors Jamison Coaxer Colors

These were owned by a good friend of mine who passed last winter. He was my traveling buddy to nationals and many of the regional shows. This was taken one weekend he brought his collection down and spent the weekend at the house, while the wife and kids were gone, we ate like kings (grilled steaks), talked lures, history, the club, collecting and life till the wee hours each night which usually was capped off with a nightcap of a good single malt.

It was like having a lure show at my own house. We photographed, talked about, shared our knowledge about each lure we both had like we just had purchased them. We did this despite having owned and seen each others items many many times before before. Or like we would do at shows at the end of the night. Joe would gather a pile of my items together, tell me to put together a pile of his, and we would swap, and if any money changed hands its was secondary in nature. He would say, its your turn Matt to take care of these things for a while. While we exchanged these we would pass on any stories of where we got them and from who or how. You see it wasn’t about the money, or even the lures themselves, it was about the story, the people behind the lures. This was a theme that many who knew Joe would come to know that there was a greater picture not just in lures but in life.

While this was 6-8 years ago, never thought at the time it would be one of those times I would remember forever or not be able to do again with him. Moral of the story baits/lures are great but they are just the vehicles by which we are driven to what is really important and that is the friendships we make along the way.

I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ocular Melonoma two weeks ago at the age of 44, and will have my first surgery and radiation treatment this week. They say the odds were 5 in a million to get this, and how fitting for those that know me. Ive never seemed to pick the easy way in anything in life, either by choice or happenstance, not even as a child. With that, Im not sure if I miss my buddy Joe more to talk about lures with, or to talk about the C word more. Many who knew my friend knew he […]

Hustle Kindness Auctions For Peach

Hustle Kindness Auctions For Peach

Hustle Kindness Auctions For Peach? What on earth does this have to do with antique fishing lures and just what are you talking about?

Every now and then people come and go through our lives for certain reasons, many which are unbeknownst to us at the time. Many of you who follow this blog or know me personally know of my youngest son Sam and his battle and walk with his own disease, ITP. And, some even know of my most recent diagnosis of my own ten days ago, cancer, more specifically Ocular Melanoma. I know that before this is over I will again count on someone like Peach to be kind and lend a smile.

Less then a half a dozen years ago, my son Sam was given a gift a random act of kindness that was facilitated through Madison Steiner, Peach for those who have come to know her story. You see Peach is a hustler, no, no, no silly, dont jump to conclusions, Peach is a Hustler of Kindness. Peach is one of those people that when her life intersects with yours will make you smile, maybe even shed a tear, a good one of course. She restores your faith that there are still people out there motivated by kindness, both in what the preach as well as what they practice.

As a parent of a child who has a rare disease, we learn very early on that we must be our children’s greatest advocates. For if we dont fight for our children, who will. As a parent of a child who has a life long chronic or incurable illness we realize that life is not meant to be fair, its meant to be cherished. We understand that with those two tiny hands we are bestowed the hope the future and the faith. As a parent of a child we realize that sometimes we alone cant hold the wheel through the storms, and we rely on others to help by offering their love and faith.

Then there are those that truly must be angles, Peach is one of those people. Peach is a person who made it her mission and her life’s work to hustle, hustle kindness. Peach has quite a story to tell and she tells it well on her page; Peaches Neet Feet

Peach takes her kindness, her hope and her love her compassion and puts it into her art, work and mission. She creates shoes based on the childs own dreams, hopes, heros and puts them on a pair of Chuck Taylor’s. Be Kind, Hustle Kindess is her mantra, if you dont know Peach, take a few minuted to visit her site above, and even maybe take a minute to sponsor a pair of shoes for a young kid.

I said all that to say, your still wondering what that and antique lures have in common. Like Ive said […]
